On March 12, 1912, Juliette Gordon Low gathered 18 girls in Savannah, GA, and set a worldwide girl-led leadership movement in motion. We have many events and activities around our state and around the nation. Whether you’re a current Girl Scout, or a future or former Girl Scouts, please join us as we celebrate our 100th Anniversary in 2012, "The Year of the Girl."
Where will Girl Scouting take you?
In May, eight Kansas Girl Scouts will travel to Japan for the 50th Annual Friendship Exchange. All starting with a visit to Tokyo, this trip includes a viewing of the Shibuya Scramble, and a day exploring the Yokosuka area. They will travel to Kirya and stay with a Japanese family to learn local culture and bring a piece of our state to those abroad. Girl Scouts will tour Kamakura, and Yokohama to visit a statue representing the friendship of Girl Scouts between the two countries. International travel gives girls the chance to make new friends, build leadership skills, and share ideas with women and girls globally. Every year Girl Scouts venture to international events through Girl Scout Destinations. Last year, a group of Kansas Girl Scouts planned and executed a trip to Europe and next up, Costa Rica in 2013.
