Starwoods Program Manager and Camp Director PDF Print E-mail
Reports To: Program Services Director

FLSA Status: Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY

The Starwoods Program Manager and Camp Director is responsible for assisting with the development and implementation of Girl Scout program resources that address the needs and interests of Girl Scout members and attract nonmembers to the organization. The Manager will work with staff and volunteers to ensure the programming is diversified, contemporary, and relevant to the needs and interests of all girls throughout the Council.

 

***Job duties related to specific assignments such site or camp directors, and specific outreach program coordinator positions will be outlined by the Program Services Director and discussed during the hiring process. Please indicate on your application if you are interested in specific roles.

 

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES

Works with volunteers and staff to plan, coordinate and deliver innovative Girl Scout programs which includes camp, events and workshops.

Accesses and analyzes the needs of the girls and keeps current with trends and issues affecting girls of all ages. Works with Volunteer Services and Membership Services team to ensure adequate and appropriate volunteers for program delivery.

Ensures compliance with GSUSA and Council safety standards, the American Camping Association, local and state regulations; includes food and health services, crisis management and property. Adheres to national and local Girl Scout policies, standards and procedures.
Maintains the necessary records and reports of projects, events and activities for regular analysis and evaluation.

Work in tandem with the Membership Services team on the strategies for recruitment and retention of all age levels of girls and the inclusion of under-served populations.
Recruits, hires and manages staff for summer program delivery. Responsible for training and development of paid staff.

Markets Starwood Outdoor Center at Girl Scout events and prepares program descriptions for publications.  Creates and cultivates Community Partnerships.

Develops and maintains budget for Starwoods Outdoors Center programs and summer staff.
Network with other Girl Scout Councils and youth organizations to gain program ideas and helpful resources, and to learn about successful delivery techniques.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelors degree in Outdoor Recreation, Teaching or equivalent, relevant experience will be considered

· Knowledge and experience in program development and outcomes measurement

· Ability to plan and implement informal education activities for youth

· High level of energy and enthusiasm

· Willingness to work flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends

· Ability to stay at the camp during overnight Council program events (not including troop camping); summer camp will include several nights per week, several weeks per month

· Outstanding presentation skills to a variety of audiences

· Strong verbal and written communication skills

· Supervisory experience of full and part-time staff and volunteers

· Proven ability to work with others in a team environment

· Ability to lift up to 25 pounds

· Physically able to stand, sit, and walk long distances in both indoor and outdoor weather conditions

· Ability to travel

· High level of creativity

 

 
Bilingual Membership Growth Specialist PDF Print E-mail
Description

The Membership Growth Specialist (bilingual) is responsible for creating as much interest as possible in Girl Scouts by interacting with adults and girls with the purpose of recruiting members and volunteers. He/she will work in cooperation with all departments to ensure membership growth in the assigned communities. The individual must have a high energy level, enthusiasm, innovative approaches, strong marketing skills and self-direction. This position has little day to day direct supervision and success is based on clearly defined goals.
This position requires both verbal and written bilingual fluency, and will be expected to take charge of the Hispanic Initiative of the Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland, leading, promoting and expanding this initiative in the communities we serve.

Major Accountabilities will fall into three main categories:

Requirements

  • This position requires both verbal and written bilingual fluency
  • Ability to analyze statistical data and draw implications from data
  • Enthusiasm to "sell" Girl Scouts
  • Skillful at interviewing and evaluating prospective volunteers
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple priorities, work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Ability to organize and delegate
  • Ability to advocate for Girl Scouts
  • Belief in the Girl Scout Promise and Law and the mission of Girl Scouts
  • Enjoys working on a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends
  • Valid Kansas driver's license with access to a properly licensed and insured automobile in working condition
  • Ability to lift and carry materials and supplies
  • Bachelors degree in related field or experience commensurate with degree

Base Pay:

$25,000 - $36,000 /Year
