This course includes a home-study portion, and then skills and written testing with a certified instructor. Once you have registered, you will need to pick up or make arrangements for delivery of your home study materials. Participants must be physically able to perform the basic skills required for CPR. Participants will not be allowed to enter the class if they arrive more than 15 minutes after the class begins.

Urban Overnighter @ Wichita Botanica Garden

Brownies and Juniors – come to the Wichita Botanica Garden after hours for a thrilling night of outdoor exploration. Use your night eyes on a series of hikes while you learn to identify nocturnal plants and creatures. Keep warm by the fire while making mouthwatering s’mores. Play games in the meadow by the light of the moon. Set up is at 5:30 p.m. with dinner served. “Make Your Own Pancake Creations” begins at 7:00 a.m.; pack up and head out by 9:00 a.m. Please limit gear to 1 bag and sleeping bag/pillow. No tag-a-longs. Sorry – a waiting list is not available for this session.

Girls – come to the Mall in Hays to enjoy shopping, friends, fun, dancing, body art, an inflatable obstacle course, workshops, crafts, games and prizes! No tagalongs please; there will be separate sleeping quarters for dads wishing to participate. Snack Saturday evening and breakfast Sunday morning are included. All Daisies must have an adult chaperone; troops must meet age level girl-to-adult ratio.

Program Aide Training @ United Christian Church

Are you a Girl Scout Cadette interested in working with younger Girl Scouts?  A PA is a girl who uses leadership skills to share her interests and experiences with younger girls in a troop, group or camp setting.

When girls guide or teach others, they act as mentors. Teen mentoring is a win-win situation! You will deepen your understanding of what leadership development means and get excited about guiding others! You too can learn to be a champion mentor that delivers fun with purpose to younger Girl Scouts.

This training serves as a requirement for the Program Aide Award and is a prerequisite for the Outdoor Leadership Training for Older Girls, which is held in May and is required for you to be a Program Aide at Summer Camp.

Across the council, girls and adults will come together for specially designed workshops on finding the leader in each of us, and empowering girls to discover their true leadership potential.

The keynote speaker for the Wichita event is Miss Kansas Theresa Vail.  The sessions will be centered around 5 main topics which are listed below.

Painting with a Splash of Style @ Baker Arts Center

Outdoor Leadership Training 101/201 @ Starwoods Outdoor Center/Lilly's Pad

This combined overnight course prepares the volunteer for semi primitive camping outside your community, as well as backyard campouts, day camps, and camping adventures within your own community or at any Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland Camp property. You will experience the demonstration of outdoor cooking methods and fire building as well as the procedures for pitching, striking and caring for tents. Additional outdoor skills and activities that can be added to the girl program are included in this workshop.  Prerequisites – Outdoor Leadership -100 Home-study.

Starry Night Artists’ Lock-In Session 1 @ CityArts

We will then tour CityArts, including a glassblowing demonstration, and then settle in for the night by enjoying some popcorn and watching a video about a famous artist. Days of Taste @ The Boston Rec Center

AIWF Days of Taste is a national interactive program designed to teach students about the importance of fresh food and how ingredients weave their way through daily life. We will begin the day with a tour of the Culinary Institute kitchen with discussions on cooking safety and cleanliness. We will discuss what makes a nutritionally balanced meal, how to present food in a visually appealing mannr and how to properly set a table. Finally, girls will partcipate in the preparation of a healthy meal consisting of a cheese enchilada with a side salad. Earn the Simple Meal Badge. Lunch provided. Please, no tag-a-longs.
