Outdoor Leadership 101/201 – Ness City @ Ness County Fairgrounds, located on N Hwy. 283, Ness City, KS

This combined overnight course prepares the volunteer for semi primitive camping (tents, A-frames, rustic cabins, etc.) outside your community, as well as backyard campouts, day camps, and camping adventures within your own community or at any Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland Camp property. You will experience the demonstration of outdoor cooking methods and fire building as well as the procedures for pitching, striking and caring for tents. Additional outdoor skills and activities that can be added to the girl program are included in this workshop.

Prerequisites – Outdoor Leadership -100 Home-study.

Northwest SU Campout

This event is for girls and adults from the WNW SU.  They will be camping inside or out, doing badge work, bridging activities, outdoor cooking, crafts, information about the Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards, and more.  Families invited to attend the awards and bridging ceremony at Ceremony Island.

NSC First Aid and CPR (Wichita) @ Wichita Girl Scout Center, 360 Lexington Rd, Wichita
May 5 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

This course provides you with the skills needed to successfully perform First-Aid and CPR. At the conclusion of this course you will be First-Aid and CPR certified by the National Safety Council. This course includes a home-study portion, and then skills and written testing with a certified instructor. Once you have registered, you will receive the materials for the home study. Participants must be physically able to perform the basic skills required for CPR. Participants will not be allowed to enter the class if they arrive more than 15 minutes after the class begins.

Bring Camelot Back! Treat your entire family to a camping trip, includes all age Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. Kids can enjoy making their own helmets, shields, crowns, swords and Participate in archery and BB target shooting. All meals provided. Please bring camping equipment. Fun patch and T-shirt included. Please mark T-shirt size when registering. If you register by May 3, your price is $25; after May 3, pay $35 (registrations after May 16 cannot guarantee a T-shirt). Kids under 5 are free. Small Craft Safety-Canoe Training @ Starwood’s Outdoor Center, 7800 S 103rd St West, Clearwater (Lily’s Pad/Waterfront)

Would you like to go canoeing with girls in your troop? With small craft safety-canoe you will be able to offer a safe canoeing experience for all participants. Learn the basics in water rescue, rules for maneuvering canoes on lakes and small bodies of water and basic strokes to make the experience even better.

Family Outdoor Adventure Night @ Lakewood Discovery Center

Bring your family and enjoy a fun night at Lakewood Discovery Center. Enjoy fishing, a “creature feature,” canoeing, archery and fixing a hot dog. Purchase a T-shirt for an additional cost! Girl Scout Zoo Day – Early Bird Event @ Brit Spaugh Zoo
Jun 22 @ 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm

Open to all girls in SU111 (Barton, Rush and Pawnee counties). Girls must re-register for the 2015 membership year in order to participate in this tour of the zoo. They will learn some interesting facts about the animals from zoo representatives. They will create animal enrichments: objects that stimulate the animals minds, as if they were in the wild. Have a snack and register to win one of four tickets to Jack Hannah’s presentation at BCCC and the zoo on Oct. 16, 2014! Non-registered GS family members will pay a $1 fee for the snack and program supplies. No busing is provided. A waiting list is not available for this session.

Wichita Wingnuts Family Campout @ Lawrence Dumont Stadium

Take me out to the ball game! Bring the family out to the diamond to enjoy an evening of Wingnuts baseball. After the game, families can participate in activities and enjoy a movie on the big screen! Tickets can be purchased directly through the Wichita Wingnuts ticket office. No food provided. Families will need to bring their own snack. Girls will earn parts of their athlete badges. Families will need to provide their own tents; no stakes allowed. No busing provided.

National S’mores Day & Dutch Oven Cook-off @ Ellis Public Library & Lakeside Campground
Aug 9 @ 10:00 am – 7:30 pm

Do you like S’mores? Giving back to your community? Outdoor cooking? Join us for National S’mores Day and the Dutch Oven Cook-off! On this day, girls and their families will participate in some community service projects, gather together to compete in a cooking contest and finish the evening with some delicious S’mores and songs around the campfire. Girl Scouts will each receive a Fun patch! This event is co-sponsored by Ellis Public Library and Ellis Recreation Commission. Lunch, dinner and snack are provided. No busing provided. A waiting list is not available for this session.
