Outdoor Leadership 101/201 @ Starwoods Outdoor Center/Spring Creek Inn

This combined overnight course prepares the volunteer for semi primitive camping outside your community, as well as backyard campouts, day camps, and camping adventures within your own community or at any Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland Camp property. You will experience the demonstration of outdoor cooking methods and fire building as well as the procedures for pitching, striking and caring for tents. Additional outdoor skills and activities that can be added to the girl program are included in this workshop.  Prerequisites – Outdoor Leadership 100 – Home Study

Aluminum Can Drive – Reno County @ Midwest Iron and Metal

Hutchinson troops are coordinating the Great American Can Roundup in conjunction with Earth Day. The public is encouraged to bring aluminum cans to Midwest Iron and Metal, 700 S. Main St. in Hutchinson on Saturday, April 26 between 8:00 a.m. and noon. What a great fundraiser for troops, and it’s great for the Earth!

Each Girl Scout who participates will receive a patch. Girls may participate with troops or as individuals.

This course provides you with the skills needed to successfully perform First-Aid and CPR. At the conclusion of this course, you will be First-Aid and CPR certified by the National Safety Council. This course includes a home-study portion, then skills and written testing with a certified instructor. Once you have registered, you will need to pick up or make arrangements for delivery of your home study materials. Participants must be physically able to perform the basic skills required for CPR. Participants will not be allowed to enter the class if they arrive more than 15 minutes after the class begins.

Girl Scout Zoo Day – Early Bird Event @ Brit Spaugh Zoo

Open to all girls in SU111 (Barton, Rush and Pawnee counties). Girls must re-register for the 2015 membership year in order to participate in this tour of the zoo. They will learn some interesting facts about the animals from zoo representatives. They will create animal enrichments: objects that stimulate the animals minds, as if they were in the wild. Have a snack and register to win one of four tickets to Jack Hannah’s presentation at BCCC and the zoo on Oct. 16, 2014! Non-registered GS family members will pay a $1 fee for the snack and program supplies. No busing is provided. A waiting list is not available for this session.
