Girl Scout Leadership Institute
The Girl Scout Leadership Institute (GSLI) is a triennial conference that presents girls 14 and older with three days of leadership, skill-building activities tied to the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. With feedback from girls, the GSLI focuses on big issues they are passionate about. Girls get the latest information on their chosen issues from experts in the field, and then they work together on solutions, learn techniques for innovation, advocacy and planning, and return home ready to make an impact in their community and council!
This leadership experience gives girls the opportunity to make new friends, develop important skills, learn about new planning processes, and take advantage of a support system to meet their needs. Each girl will also create action plans that will provide her and her council with a significant and lasting return on investment.
During the national convention, girls who attend GSLI may also have the opportunity to volunteer for other convention events, such as ceremonies, in special girl spaces in the Hall of Exhibits, and during the Conversations of Consequence.
Join Our Team!
Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland will be taking a team of girls to the Girl Scout Leadership Institute at the 2014 Girl Scout Convention. The council can have a team of up to 10 girls who are 14 or older by Oct. 16, 2014, when GSLI begins. GSLI runs from early afternoon on Oct. 16 through the evening of Oct. 18.
Girls who are interested in participating in this leadership opportunity must complete the application form by July 31. Click here for the printable application form.
For GSLI, girls are part of a group registration submitted by the council. Chaperones from the council will accompany the girls. An estimated total cost of the trip per girl, including airfare, lodging and convention registration, is between $1,200 and $1,500. Girls will have the opportunity to attend the business sessions, exhibits, celebrations and conversations during the national Girl Scout Convention when GSLI is not in session.
Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland representative Krista Wagner will be making the council’s reservations. Contact Krista with any questions at email@example.com or (316) 684-6531, ext. 1532.
