Troop 30025 Bronze Award Project

These Emporia 4th and 5th grade Girl Scouts brainstormed about 12 ideas before settling on helping out a local small nursing home, Flint Hills Care Center, which serves lower income residents.  The girls visited the residents and as seen at the beginning of the video, helped a resident set up, decorate and serve cake at a birthday party for her grandson.  It was a dream of hers to have a party for her entire family to come..

The photos of the girls doing nails, hair and make-up are in preparation for an annual dance called Senior Prom, sponsored by the Emporia State University athletic department occurring on campus. All seniors, 55 and over, were invited to come and mingle with male and female ESU athletes.  The troop helped to “doll up” all of the ladies who wanted to go from the Flint Hills Care Center.  The girls enjoyed themselves, and later, after the dance started, they popped in on the dance to see their new friends were doing.

Troop 30025 was able to visit the residents several times and also wrote them letters.  The girls made this video to encourage younger troops to also visit and get to know the residents of Flint Hills Care Center in hopes that their project would continue.  The emporia Gazette ran an article about this troop’s project, too.
