Garden City Girl Scouts Successful in Can Drive for Local Agency

The Emmaus House project was a success for Garden City Girl Scouts.  The girls collected 2462 provisions for Emmaus House.  Leader Ora Swords said, “It was fun to see the girls gather and watch as the finalist brought in their provisions.”  In all, 14 girls collected for Emmaus House, four were Daisies, seven Juniors, and three Cadettes.

Girls challenged themselves in this can collection. Junior Camelot Ferrer-Naeve had the most, collecting 694.  Junior Jerica McGuire collected an incredible amount of 575.  Daisy Maria Standley collected 329 cans and Tia Swords, also a Daisy, collected 250 cans.

The Emmaus House staff was elated with the amount of provisions collected. They offered the Girl Scouts a tour of the location. Emmaus House has been an entity in Finney County/Garden City for over 30 years. They are a Homeless/Emergency Shelter, Food Pantry, and Soup Kitchen. Emmaus House is the only Homeless Shelter in in Garden City and Finney County and the only shelter in SW Kansas that provides food boxes three days a week for all those in need.

These Girl Scouts have future plans for collections for Emmaus House.
